Rick
Hurni enters his first season as a volunteer assistant
baseball coach in 2008. Hurni brings a wealth of
baseball knowledge to the Bulldog program. In addition,
he has playing experience on the college and
professional levels.
Hurni
spent four seasons as assistant baseball coach and game
management supervisor at Davidson College. During his
time with the Wildcats, Hurni served as the team’s
hitting and outfield instructor and first base coach. He
was responsible for assisting in recruiting efforts and
the strength and development of the baseball team.
Prior
to his time at Davidson, Hurni worked two seasons as
assistant baseball coach at Anderson University (his
alma mater) in Anderson, Indiana. He was the team
instructor for the hitters, infielders and base runners,
while serving as third base coach.
During
his playing days, Hurni was an NAIA All-American for two
seasons. The four-year starter holds seven AU school
records, including highest season average, hits, runs
and RBI. The Ravens made two NAIA World Series
appearances during Hurni’s career.
Following his graduation with a B.A. degree in
Management and Marketing, Hurni signed a free agent
contract with the Salt Lake City Trappers of the Pioneer
League. The Trappers signed him out of the Pittsburgh
Pirates training camp.
In
addition to his degree from Anderson, Hurni holds an MBA
in Business Finance from Butler University. He earned a
certification in Business Education from Ball State
University. Hurni resides in Matthews.
