Wingate, N.C.----On January 19, the Wingate University Athletic Department and the Athletic Foundation will honor Coach Francis Essic for his successful three years leading the Wingate Junior College men’s basketball team. The University will also welcome back and recognize student-athletes who played for Coach Essic from 1957-60.
A ceremony will take place at halftime of the Wingate-Brevard men’s basketball game Saturday in Cuddy Arena. In addition, members of the women’s basketball teams, the cheerleading teams and the football teams from Coach Essic’s era will be recognized.

Wingate University men's basketball team shares the 2007-08 South Atlantic Conference regular season championship with Lenoir-Rhyne College. The number two seed Bulldogs host number seven seed Newberry College Wednesday night at 8 p.m. in the first round of the 2008 Food Lion SAC tournament. Wingate is the two-time defending tournament champions. |

Indianapolis, Ind.----The number three seed Wingate University men’s basketball team (23-6 overall) will face number six seed Catawba College (19-11 overall) in the first round of the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional tournament in Augusta, Ga. Saturday (March 15) at 12 noon. The three-day event will be hosted by Augusta State University. The Bulldogs received an at-large bid to the 2008 NCAA Division II play-offs.
First-round games will be played on Saturday, March 15, with the semi-finals on Sunday, March 16 and the championship game on Tuesday, March 18. The South Atlantic Conference sends three teams to this year’s dance, as the Lenoir-Rhyne College Bears (22-6 overall) also earned an at-large bid. Catawba earns the league’s automatic qualification as a result of its Food Lion SAC tournament championship.

Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University president Dr. Jerry McGee and vice-president and director of athletics Steve Poston announce the appointment of Brian Good as head men’s basketball coach. A press conference will be held Wednesday, July 16 to introduce Coach Good to the Bulldog community. The event will begin at 1 p.m. in the LaVerne Banquet Hall on the Wingate campus.
