Wingate, N.C.----The first Wingate University football game of the 2008 season will be played at a different venue, Wingate vice president and director of athletics Steve Poston and head football coach Joe Reich have confirmed. The Bulldogs will face Saint Paul’s College at historic Cameron Field (424 Graham Street, 23805) in Petersburg, Va. on Saturday, August 30. Saint Paul’s officials made the announcement last week.

Kick-off is slated for 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Cameron Field is the site of the annual East Coast Bowl Game, sponsored by The City of Petersburg, The National Football Foundation and the American Football Alumni.

This year, the Bulldogs are scheduled to play 11 games. Six contests will be held at Wingate’s Irwin Belk Stadium and John R. Martin Field.

Wingate finished the 2007 season 7-4 overall and 2-4 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Bulldogs were ranked in the top 25 of the NCAA Division II for five separate weeks last year, charting as high as number 18 in the AFCA poll. Head coach Joe Reich (42-34 overall in seven seasons) was named SAC Coach of the Year in 2004.

Wingate will begin a three-game home stand Sept. 13, as they take on UNC Pembroke at 1:30 p.m. in the home opener. The Sept. 13 contest is Church Youth Day and Patriots’ Day.
