June Spotlight: Noninstitutional Privately Owned
Camps/Clinics
As a coach it is permissible to serve as a counselor,
guest lecturer or consultant in a noninstitutional privately owned camp or
clinic provided the camp is operated in accordance with restrictions
applicable to institutional camps. Some of those restrictions applicable
to institutional camps are below. For the entire list of restrictions
please refer to bylaw 13.12.1 on page 92 of the NCAA manual.

The sports camp or clinic is open to any and all entrants
(limited only by number and age)
§
There is no free or reduced admission to or employment of
any individual who has started classes for the 9th grade
In addition to the above restrictions in order for a
coach to work at a noninstitutional privately owned camp or clinic that
camp must meet the following restrictions

The camp or clinic is designed to develop fundamental skills
in a sport
§
The camps or clinic is conducted primarily for educational
purposes and does not include material benefits for the participants
(e.g., awards, prizes, merchandise, gifts)
§
Participants do not receive a recruiting presentation
§
All participants reside in the state in which the
camp/clinic is located or within 100 miles of the camp/clinic.
