What is a contact? A contact is any
face-to-face encounter between a PSA or the PSA’s relatives or legal
guardian(s) and an institutional staff member or athletics representative
where dialogue occurs in excess of an exchange of a greeting.
Is it considered a contact if a coach arranges to
“bump in to” a PSA at an off campus site? It is considered a contact
if a coach purposefully places himself/herself in an area where he or she
will “bump in to” a PSA regardless of whether or not any conversation
takes place.
What is the permissible number of contacts?
Each institution is allowed a total of three in person, off campus
recruiting contacts during the academic year per student-athlete.
Can I contact a PSA after he or she has signed the
National Letter of Intent with my institution? After the calendar day
on which the PSA signed the NLI there are no limits to the number of
contacts by the institution with which the PSA has signed. However, there
should be no in person, off campus contacts made by representatives of
athletics interest. Additionally contact at the site of the PSA’s site of
competition shall still be governed by Bylaw 13.1.7.2, except that contact
with the PSA’s relatives or legal guardian(s) shall be permitted. (Please
see NCAA manual to review this Bylaw.)
Is there a limit on the number of evaluations that
can be made on a PSA? There is no limit to the number of evaluations.
